The agency said that it did not want to set a wrong precedent by accepting his demands. The ED objected to the demands during the former Finance Minister’s custody hearing. Earlier on Thursday, the judicial custody of P Chidambaram in the CBI case was extended, but the period of judicial custody and date was not given by the court yet. Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar says, “Custody extended but next date of hearing in CBI case will be decided after ED matter hearing.”

Chidambaram makes demands for AC, western toilet

P Chidambaram had asked for air conditioning, a separate cell, a western toilet and home-cooked food in case custody is granted to ED. Along with this, Chidambaram had also asked to be lodged at the CBI headquarters for his security. The ED has objected to his demands. The court later also reserved order on the ED seeking his 14-day custodial interrogation.

Delhi court reserves order on Chidambaram’s plea

A Delhi court on Thursday reserved order on the plea of Enforcement Directorate seeking 14-day custodial interrogation of former finance minister P Chidambaram in the INX Media money laundering case. Special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar will pronounce the order shortly. The probe agency has sought 14-day custodial interrogation of the 74-year old senior Congress leader. The court had on Wednesday issued a production warrant against him in the INX Media money laundering case lodged by Enforcement Directorate.

ED grills Chidambaram

On Wednesday, an ED team grilled Chidambaram for around two hours in Tihar Jail and later arrested him. The CBI had arrested him on August 21 following which he was sent to judicial custody. The Congress leader is facing probe by the CBI and the ED for alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance given to INX Media in getting overseas funds to the tune of Rs 305 crore in 2007 when he was the Union Finance Minister. Indrani Mukerjea who is accused in the INX Media case has turned approver in the matter.
