J&K: Terrorist killed in encounter in Ganderbal

The gunfight happened after the security forces had launched a cordon-and-search operation in Kulan area of central Kashmir on Tuesday morning.

The security forces said they started the operation after receiving inputs about the presence of terrorists.

There was an input about the presence of these gunmen in the area. The operation was mounted accordingly, said a senior police officer.

As per the details, during the search, the terrorists fired upon the security forces who in turn retaliated. A terrorist was killed during the gunfight. Officials said that an Army jawan was also injured and was taken to a medical facility for treatment.

The identity and group affiliation of the terrorist is yet to be ascertained. The operation is on and further details are awaited.

On Monday, two terrorists were killed in Bandipora after a 12-hour-long gunbattle with the security forces. Both the gunmen were identified and belonged to the Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit. The officials said arms and ammunition were recovered from the site after the encounter.
